Facts about Alta Loma:

Johnny Lee (Ham) - Famous country western singer Johnny Lee (Ham) grew up the Alta Loma, Texas area on a dairy farm. He was famous for the hit song "Looking for Love: featured in the hit movie "Urban Cowboy" with John Travolta in which his character refers to it as "his favorite song".

High Ground - Alta Loma means "High Ground' in spanish.

Asa Brigham - Alta Loma was settled by Asa Brigham. He received a grant for Hall's Bayou from the Mexican government in 1830. Previously the area had previously been occupied by Karankawa Indians.

Santa Fe Railway - 1878 saw the beginning of the rail boom as the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway was built through the settlement.

Fruit Bonanza - Around 1883 there was an exceptional increase in the harvesting and production of pears, figs, and oranges produced in the area.

1883 the School was established - The Alta Loma Improvement and Investment Company officially created the town site and sponsored the building of a school, a store, churches, a depot, and many local houses.

Population 200 - In 1897 Alta Loma had a population of 200 with over a dozen businesses the most prominent of which was a fruit cannery.

Early Industry - Fruit farms, dairy farms, and beef cattle ranches were the mainstay of the early 1900s economy.

No Longer Alta Loma - Alta Loma was unincorporated but in 1978 it was incorporated into Santa Fe. Many people still refer to the area as Alta Loma.

Post Office - in 1982 Alta Loma officially changed the post office name to Santa Fe.

Recreation - The area has Hall's Bayou for boating and fishing, and two private parks.
